How is your food impacting your mood?

We all know that eating well is important for our physical health; however, a recent study published in Nutritional Neuroscience has revealed that what we fuel our body with can also have an impact on our mental wellbeing. 

The study revealed that consuming a Western diet can have a negative impact on our mood, especially in women who instead benefit from a more Mediterranean style diet. 

This is because the Western diet is based around high amounts of caffeine and sugary, fried foods, which can result in inflammation, a spike in blood sugar and an increase in the release of the stress hormone, cortisol. 

Mediterranean diet, on the other hand, is full of nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, which can help restore hormonal balance and allows your brain to communicate to the rest of your body more effectively foods. 

As if we needed another reason to book a flight to the Med…
